Highlighting significant decisions
In 2009, the Town Council approved beginning each regular business meeting with an invocation to highlight the significance of the Council’s deliberations and decisions.

Anyone meeting the qualifications and who is interested in providing an invocation at a Town Council meeting should e-mail the Town or call 303-660-1374.

Qualifications
Qualifications must be met to provide Council invocation:

• Spiritual leaders from all faiths, beliefs and religious perspectives
  • Substantially equal opportunity to give the invocation on a rotating basis
• Group represented by the speaker has a place of public assembly
• Organization has a recognized tax-exempt status
• In the absence of a spiritual leader, a Councilmember may give a general invocation

Guidelines for content

• Arrive at meeting by 5:45 p.m. and check in with the greeter
• Invocation should be brief (one to two minutes maximum)
• Invocation should be positive and uplifting and be respectful of the diverse religious and spiritual makeup of the community and Council audience
• Invocation should refrain from addressing particular items on the Council agenda that evening
• Invocation should not include verbal attacks and negative comments about anyone or any belief
• Invocation should not solicit contributions or advertising for a church
