Some Town parks are prettier and some Downtown sidewalks more scenic with the addition of new sculptures that will be displayed in Castle Rock for the next year.
Five of the sculptures are being featured through the Countywide Art Encounters program:
•“Eye Love U,” for sale at $8,000 by artist Justin Deister, is at the southeast corner of Third and Wilcox streets
•“Prickly Pear,” for sale at $2,800 by artist Mike Mladjan, is at Town Hall, 100 N. Wilcox St.
•“Iron Tree,” for sale at $3,000 by artist David Zvanut, is at Wrangler Park, 2418 Autumn Sage St.
•“RosKavo,” for sale at $10,000 by artist Kyle Ocean, is at Metzler Ranch Community Park, 4175 Trail Boss Drive
•“Skyline,” for sale at $12,000, also by Ocean, is at Mitchell Gulch Park, 200 Mikelson Blvd.
One additional sculpture not procured through Art Encounters also is being featured this year. “Spirit Eagle,” for sale at $19,000 by artist Dale Montagne, is at the Miller Activity Complex, 1375 Plum Creek Parkway.
The sculptures listed will remain in place until late May/early June 2018. To borrow the pieces for the year, the Town has given each artist an $800 stipend, which is funded through the Philip S. Miller Trust Fund. No taxpayer money is used to fund public art in Castle Rock.
Starting its 10th year, Art Encounters provides one-year exhibits of sculptures in retail and civic areas within Douglas County. Learn more about the program vote for your favorite art piece by the end of summer at douglas.co.us/artencounters.
