Covid-19 Update

  1. Effective Friday, Nov. 20 residents and businesses in Castle Rock will be under the Colorado Department of Health and Environment’s Safer at Home Dial Level Red. The move from Level Orange to the more restrictive Level Red is based on COVID-19 case numbers, positivity and incidence rate. The change to Level Red will impact some Parks and Recreation services provided by the Town. Capacity at facilities and programs will be reduced to 10 people and indoor sports league play will be halted.

    Recreation Center

    The Recreation Center is currently open. New safety precautions are in place, and users are required to reserve a 90-minute time slot online for a specific workout zone. The lap pool and leisure pool are also open by reservation only with a maximum of 10 people each. Lap lanes are limited to one or two people depending on the lane. Restrooms and showers are open, and lockers are available on a limited basis.

    In addition, the Rec Center Leisure Pool is also open by reservation. Reservations may be made 48 hours in advance.

    Please keep in mind:
    • The sauna and hot tub are no longer available for use.
    • The hot tub is closed.
    • Limited lockers are available. Showers are also available for swimmers to rinse off
    • Please arrive with your swimsuit on, and be prepared to leave the facility in your swimsuit
    • Slides are available starting at 9 a.m.
    The racquetball courts are available for singles only play; challenge play and Wallyball will not be allowed. Additionally, the basketball courts are open for family shoot around only, pickup games are not permitted. All courts will be available by reservation only. Timeslots are available online.

    Dear Friends,

    We would like to sincerely thank those of you who continue to wear your masks throughout your work out. It is very encouraging to see how much you care about not only our staff, but each other while on your fitness journey. Our staff, members and participants are what makes working in the world of wellness so fulfilling.  We know many of you rely on us as an outlet to stay healthy in this trying time.

    As you have no doubt noticed, the weather is turning and the Recreation Center and MAC are getting busier by the day.  While we are a long way from the “good old days”, it is amazing to see the resilience of all who continue to walk through our doors.  As we become more active indoors, it is important to continue taking care of each other.  I am including a few of the larger measures we are taking to make our environment a safer place to participate in below.  I am also including a request to you, and all of our participants, to help us keep these efforts successful, and allow us to stay open and continue providing an outlet of wellness for all of Castle Rock.

    Virus mitigation measures

    • Increased fresh air flow (it might get chilly, but it’s fresh air)
    • Regularly scheduled deep cleaning periods
    • Staff temperature and symptom checking
    • Staff masking and physical distancing
    • Scheduled participation times to allow for reduced capacity and regular cleaning times

    What we are asking from you

    • Stay home if you are not feeling well or have been exposed to COVID-19
    • Wear a mask throughout your workout
      • Take it down, catch your breath if you need it, put it back on and continue
    • Wipe down each piece of your equipment after each use
    • Keep your distance

    Please know, we have asked staff to be more persistent in reminding people of our expectations of our guests and participants.  Please remember, this situation will be as uncomfortable for our staff as it is for the individual who they are expected to address.  If you have any questions or concerns, please address them to me directly.

The Castle Rock Recreation Center has a wide offering of active senior classes, which are free with your daily admissions. We are also a proud member of the SilverSneakers network of fitness facilities.

Anyone is welcome to attend all classes, including SilverSneakers, regardless whether or not you qualify for the SilverSneakers program.

The Recreation Center and Miller Activity Complex are members of the SilverSneakers®, Silver&Fit and Renew Active network of fitness facilities. Check with either front desks to determine if your health coverage provider participates in any of these programs.

The SilverSneakers® Fitness Program is a unique physical activity, lifestyle and socially oriented program designed to encourage physical activity and foster an active lifestyle. The program reflects senior sensitivity, promotes social interaction and encourages participation in healthy lifestyle activities, showing that it’s easy to get fit, have fun and make friends.

Senior Walk & Weights

Walk your way to better health with strength training using tubing. Improve balance and agility with this class. 

Meets at the track located downstairs.

SilverSneakers Classic

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is available if needed for seated or standing support.

SilverSneakers Circuit

Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Upper-body strength work with and-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball is alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is used for standing support. stretching and relaxation exercises.

SilverSneakers Cardio

Get up and go with an aerobics class that's safe, heart-healthy and gentle on the joints. The workout includes easy-to-follow low-impact movement, and upper-body strength, abdominal conditioning, stretching and relaxation exercised designed to energize your active lifestyle.

SilverSneakers Yoga

SilverSneakers Yoga will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and metal clarity.

Stability and Balance

Get stronger and improve your balance through exercises that strengthen the ankle, knee, and hip joints all in a fun and social setting. This class is designed specifically for fall prevention. 

Stretch and Core

Increase flexibility and range of motion and strengthen your entire core in this 60 minute format. Appropriate for all fitness levels.

Zumba Gold

Zumba Gold targets the larges growing segment of the population - baby boomers. It takes the Zumba formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of the active older participant, as well as those just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle. What stays the same are all the elements the Zumba Fitness-Party is known for: the zest Latin music, like salsa, merengue, cumbia and reggaeton; the exhilarating, easy-to-follow moves; and the invigorating, party-like atmosphere. Active older adults want camaraderie, excitement and fitness as a regular part of the weekly schedule. Zumba Gold is the perfect fit. It's a dance-fitness class that feels friendly, and most of all, fun.
